Get Involved

If you want to help or get involved with assistance dogs there are many ways to do this.

Volunteer

Puppy raising can be a great way to get involved with assistance dogs in a very hands on way. Assistance dog organisations that train their own dogs usually have puppy raising programmes which you can get involved with. If you don’t want a puppy but still want to be involved with the dogs, some programmes also offer volunteer foster placements for brood bitches and stud dogs.

Some organisations also may run stalls and events or at shops and stations and often need volunteers to work on the stalls. Have a look and see whether there are any upcoming events you may be able to attend.

If you are after something to do for a short time on a regular basis, you may be interested in collecting money from collection boxes in your local area. Have a look on some sites and see if there is an opening near you.

Some programmes also run services that are not assistance dog specific but helps support the disabled people they aid in a different way. It can be worth having a look at these services if you want to volunteer more with people than with adults.

Fundraising

Fundraising is a great way to support assistance dog organisations and can be a great way to involve children too. Whether it be a fun run or a bake sale there are many possibilities to choose from. Some organisations may have advice or toolkits on their website to help you.

Campaign

Joining in with campaigns can also be a great way to help assistance dog partnerships in the UK. Campaigns may involve petitions or spreading awareness about assistance dogs. Generally bigger organisations will run campaigns though small ones do to from time to time. You can find CATE UK’s campaign to improve assistance dog signage here
