Give A Dog Sign is a campaign to help improve the no dogs signs that shops have in the UK and to spread awareness of assistance dogs to businesses and service providers. Unfortunately, at the moment it is all too common for signs to say ‘no dogs except guide dogs’ or similar which does not reflect the law.

Why is it important?

Assistance dog partnerships often experience access issues and are refused services unlawfully. This can create a lot of stress and anxiety due to fear of being refused. When signs are inaccurate it can cause handlers to anticipate a refusal before it’s even happened and choose to go elsewhere. By having accurate signs that promote access for assistance dogs, it can create a welcoming atmosphere and help assistance dog partnerships feel confident accessing your business or service.

Examples of incorrect signs

This sign includes assistance dogs as not allowed and so is not suitable
This sign only recognises guide and hearing dogs as assistance dogs when they can help with any disability so the sign is not suitable
There is no registry for assistance dogs in the UK, so wording such as ‘registered’ or ‘recognised’ is not suitable.

What can I do to help?

Get involved! You can help by printing out our sign packs and giving them out to businesses and service providers who don’t currently have correct signs. You can do this by dedicating an hour or two to it or on the go by carrying sign packs with you when you are out and about. When out an about with our signs please feel free to tag us on social media and use the #GiveADogASign

Our sign packs

Our sign packs are free to print and distribute as long as they are not sold for profit. We like to support language initiatives and local language variation so our signs also come in dual languages. Please feel free to contact us if you require a different language and we will try our hardest to fulfil the request.
