A green sign with a black dog wearing a white vest with a green tick coming from it. A black box comes out from the sign and in white text says 'Give A Dog A Sign'

Give A Dog A Sign is a campaign to encourage businesses and service providers to use correct signage around assistance dogs.

Why is it important?

Unfortunately, assistance dog partnerships often experience access issues and are refused services unlawfully. This can create a lot of stress and anxiety due to fear of being refused. When signs are inaccurate it can cause handlers to anticipate a refusal before it’s even happened and choose to go elsewhere. By having accurate signs that promote access for assistance dogs, it can create a welcoming atmosphere and help assistance dog partnerships feel confident accessing your business or service.

Examples of incorrect signs

No dogs sign
This sign includes assistance dogs as not allowed and so is not suitable
Guide and hearing dogs welcome sign
This sign only recognises guide and hearing dogs as assistance dogs when they can help with any disability so the sign is not suitable
No dogs except registered assistance dogs sign
There is no registry for assistance dogs in the UK, so wording such as ‘registered’ or ‘recognised’ is not suitable.
