CATE UK or Canine Access To Education UK is an education hub for assistance dogs in the UK. We provide information and signposting for disabled people, the general public and businesses around the topic of assistance dogs.
CATE UK was founded in 2020 with the first rendition of the CATE UK website going live in 2021. It was built in response to disabled people looking for assistance dog organisations on social media and the spread of misinformation around assistance dogs which caused issues.
Over the next few years, it is intended that CATE UK will be incorporated into a Community Interest Company to better support the assistance dog community, professionals, businesses and the general public.
We aspire to provide a variety of services including webinars and support groups alongside working with the wider assistance dog sector to help improve provisions for assistance dogs, disabled people, organisations and professionals.
CATE UK was founded and created by Millie Gee, a disabled young person who is autistic and has ADHD alongside a variety of other disabilities. They have owner-trained an assistance dog before he washed out during training and are in the process of applying for a programmed-trained dog. The creation of CATE UK has led them to be a national winner of the BBC Young Reporter Competition 2023 and represent CATE UK on the BSI committee for the creation of the European Standards for Assistance Dogs.
